PB1A Resignation Letters

 Resignation Letters

The topic I chose for this assignment is resignation letters. Almost everyone will have to hand one in at some point or another and there are elements that go into resignation letters that will make them better than others. You should want to leave the company on good terms with your former employer and colleagues. A resignation letter should be professional no matter what job you are resigning from, just so your employer has impression of you when you leave.

One element you can add to your letter is a positive tone regardless of whether or not you disliked the job. There is no need to leave a bad taste in the mouth of your employer. Maybe highlight what kind of knowledge or experience you’ve gained while working there to let your employers know that you have cared for and learned from working there. You should also make sure to thank your employer for giving you the chance to work at the company. Again this will help to ensure you leave on good terms with your boss as you never know if you will need his or her help in the future. The world in a small place and you can run into old people in places you least expect it.

Next you should give a timeline for when you’re leaving. Giving your employer as much notice is possible will be appreciated as it will give them more time to find a replacement. It is also good to leave your employer with information on your current progress in any projects you might be working on for the company as well as an agenda for what you will be completing during your time left at the company or maybe even offer to leave notes about how you run things for your future replacement to help them adjust to their new position quickly. This will help to avoid creating panic or stress in your boss and current co-workers, making sure you leave without causing too much chaos. Like I stated earlier you never know who you might need in the future and leaving your colleagues to deal with a mess you made when you left doesn’t leave a great last impression.

Lastly leave is leaving out any profanities or insults. While this may be insinuated based on the other steps it is still worth mentioning. There is really no need to hurl any insults when leaving. If you were treated bad enough to want to write bad things, then chances are that person won’t care, and it will just give them more ammo against you should something come up in the future.
